Since 1986, the Monroy Long Range Fuel Tanks are the only ones FAA STC approved for Mooney Models M20C, E, F, J, K, L, M, and R. They have gone through extensive engineering and flight testing to assure reliable operation. There are over 800 Mooney's worldwide with this upgrade. The upgrade is also approved by the LBA in Germany, the ENAC in Italy, and the CAA in Australia.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Long Range Tanks are of the integral type, same as the
main tanks. They are built into the wing structure through the existing bottom
access openings. No skin removal, no extra access panels, or painting is
required. Prefabricated aluminum parts are installed in the wing to contain the
fuel in the cavity. The LR tanks feed directly into the main tanks by gravity,
through interconnecting aluminum lines. There is no pilot intervention during
the fuel transfer or fuel pumps to worry about. Transfer is continuous and can
easily be checked on the ground at fill-up time.
There is a separate filler cap for each LR tank of the same
type as the mains (none is required for the M20M or M20R). Also, there is a
separate drain valve for each LR tank of the same type as the mains. There is
no separate fuel gauge for the LR tanks. Fuel amount on the ground is
determined by observing the fuel level in each LR tank and correlating it with
the table provided in the flight manual supplement. In flight, the main tank
fuel gauges will read full for the first two to three hours depending on the
power setting. As a norm, the fuel on board is greater than indicated by the
gauges when the reading is above the mid scale. Below the mid scale, the LR
tanks are empty and the fuel indicated is the true on board fuel.
The tanks empty weight is 12 pounds for models M20C through
M20L, and 10 pounds for models M20M and M20R. The CG is located in between the
forward and rear seats. Total weight added by the extra fuel is 216 pounds (36
gallons) for A/C with no speed brakes or 180 pounds (30 gallons) with speed
brakes.
Since 1986, the Monroy Long Range Fuel Tanks are the only
ones FAA STC approved for Mooney Models M20C, E, F, J, K, L, M, and R. They
have gone through extensive engineering and flight testing to assure reliable
operation. There are over 800 Mooneys worldwide with this upgrade. The upgrade
is also approved by the LBA in Germany,

CAA in Australia.
